The Snellville Downtown Development Authority (‘DDA”) will receive sealed Bids for all material, labor,
equipment and services to successfully accomplish the following work: “Cobblestone Office Park Exterior
Capital Improvements ”. This work generally entails repairs and replacement of various selected exterior
facade materials; including carpentry services, window replacements, pressure washing and painting,
sidewalk repairs, sandblasting staircases and handrails, correcting ADA deficiencies and associated
work. Bids shall be on unit price basis. Project is funded with the DDA bond funds.
Snellville Days, which took place annually at T.W. Briscoe Park, has been canceled indefinitely as organizers are evaluating ways to improve the event and integrate it with the ongoing plans at The Grove at Towne Center.
The festival had been canceled the last two years in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of the virus has led to scheduling issues related to the event.
SNELLVILLE – Mayor and Council approved a rezoning measure which will make way for a two-story, 20,000-square-foot office building on North Road.
The building, to be located at 2165 North Road across from Eastgate Drive, was approved by a vote of 5-1 with Councilwoman Solange Destang casting the dissenting vote.
Alliance Engineering and Planning and PLG Partners, LLC requested the zoning change from BG (General Business) District to OP (Office Professional) District.
The zoning change was approved for the currently vacant 3.3-acre site with numerous staff recommended variances and conditions including stipulations the architectural design must be approved by the director of Planning and Development, there will not be electronic signage allowed on the site, and existing trees along the rear of the property must be maintained and protected.
Mayor and Council also:
Approved design services for the park maintenance facility in T.W. Briscoe Park with Croft for $141,700. Plans are to move the facility, currently located near the park basketball courts, to an area near the Public Works building. The move will make way for new facilities as outlined by the park’s Master Plan.
Approved a contract with Collaborative Infrastructure Services for $105,425 to conduct a sidewalk survey and design proposal to improve sidewalks and accessibility in the city.
Approved a resolution opposing Georgia House Bill 1093 and Georgia Senate Bill 494 and opposing limitations on a municipality’s authority to make housing, land use and zoning decisions within a local government’s geographical boundaries. At its core, city officials say the bills would remove local control of what type of housing can be built within city limits and allow corporations to buy property for long-term rental without city oversight.
SNELLVILLE — Construction on the roundabout at Clower Street and Wisteria Drive will begin Feb. 22 as part of The Grove at Towne Center development project.
Construction is expected to be completed within three months. The roundabout will help traffic flow in the area. This is the first phase of several that will comprise roadway improvements on all four streets surrounding The Grove. All work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.
Silt fencing will be erected along Wisteria Drive, followed by utility relocation, sidewalk replacement and construction of the actual roundabout – the city’s third.
Traffic lanes will not be shut down at any point during the construction but there will be periods of minor delays between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The Snellville Police Department’s entrance at the corner of Clower Street and Wisteria Drive will remain open throughout the construction.
Announcements of when traffic will be affected will be made as the information is released on the city’s website – Snellville.org – and the city’s Facebook page.
Mayor and Council awarded a contract to build the roundabout late last year. The $1.6 million contract to low bidder Ohmshiv of Lawrenceville also includes right in/right out access at North and Oak roads and curb/sidewalk improvements on all roads in the development. The cost of the construction will come from Special Local Option Sales Tax funds.
North Road from Oak Road to Wisteria Drive will be changed from a one-way to two-way street and a new signal will be added at the Wisteria Drive and North Road intersection.
SNELLVILLE - Applications are being accepted for the 31st session of the Snellville Citizens Police Academy.
The Snellville Police Department is offering the class in order to strengthen the bond of friendship and cooperation between citizens and police. The 10-week class begins March 10 and ends May 12. The class is designed to help citizens gain a better understanding of the risks and responsibilities of the city’s police officers. Some of the classes included in this training are on domestic violence, traffic stops, building searches and narcotics. This class also includes a ride-a-long program with a Snellville police officer.
Applications must be returned no later than 5 p.m. March 4 to the department at 2315 Wisteria Drive.
Space is limited and applications must be filled out completely and notarized. Applicants will be notified via e-mail or phone call as to the status of their application.
There will be a clean-up day at T.W. Briscoe Park Feb. 5. The event, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park, located at 2500 Sawyer Parkway, replaces the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service which was canceled due to inclement weather.
“This is a great way for the community to come together and make T.W. Briscoe Park more beautiful, cleaner and safer,” said Parks and Recreation Director Lisa A Platt, CPRP. “We encourage any individual or group to come out to help make the park look its best.
Volunteers will be painting, laying mulch, cleaning out scupper drains amongst other projects.

Gwinnett County leaders joined officials from the city of Snellville and the Gwinnett County Public Library to break ground on a new library and educational space in downtown Snellville.
Once complete, the new Elizabeth Williams Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library will replace the existing branch on Lenora Church Road.
The two-story building will house the library on the first floor while the second floor will be operated by the city for educational uses.
Gwinnett County and the city of Snellville are jointly funding the $10.2 million project using 2017 SPLOST program dollars.
Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson acknowledged the importance of SPLOST funding in allowing the County to keep up with the demands of our growing population.
“This building will serve as a hub for knowledge, culture, literacy and business, all in the heart of the city of Snellville,” said Hendrickson. “Because of SPLOST, we’re able to reinvest in our community and provide high-quality facilities that will become centers for learning and innovation in the future.”
District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins celebrated the collaboration with the city of Snellville that made the facility possible.
“This new facility is a great example of what can be achieved when local governments collaborate for the benefit of our residents,” said Watkins. “Downtown Snellville is undergoing transformative growth, and the new library will fit right in with a convenient location and state-of-the-art space that will entice patrons to experience the library’s world-class resources.”
“I would like to express our heartfelt thank you to the Library Board of Trustees and our Gwinnett County Commissioners for their willingness to relocate the Snellville library branch to be an integral part of the activity here in the Towne Center,” said Bender. “This library and business center will give people of all ages a reason to come to The Grove and participate in civic life together and add to the history of our community in a modern way.”

SNELLVILLE – The results of a survey designed to gauge the improvements residents want to see at T.W. Briscoe Park are in and are helping shape the future of the park for decades to come.
A recreation center, upgraded basketball courts, new pickleball courts and improved walking trails topped a residents’ wish list for the park at 2500 Sawyer Parkway. More than 250 survey results were compiled over a period of months by Atlanta-based architectural firm Goodwyn Mills Carwood. Those results will be reflected in Phase III of the park’s master plan.
“The Briscoe Park Master Plan has been discussed, designed, re-designed and ‘in the works’ for well over two decades,” said Parks and Recreation Director Lisa A Platt, CPRP. “Improvements are long overdue and the Snellville Parks and Recreation Department is very excited at the prospect of a new community building that will allow us to provide new youth and adult programming, room rentals, and new events to our community. With the survey results in, and hopefully the Mayor and Council’s approval to move forward, the Briscoe Park Master Plan will provide the next major addition of a Community Building that will bring all our citizens and visitors together as one.”
The results of the survey helped shape a new design of half of the park revealed to Mayor and Council on Monday. The revamped design features new walking trail entrances, more trails, the relocation of the park’s maintenance garage to a less visible area and, the biggest upgrade, a new community building. The building could offer a wide variety of options including an indoor walking track, event space and indoor sports courts.
Phase I of the plan was began in 2008 and the city has slowly continued implementing the master plan in phases. Phase II saw the addition of softball fields, a new playground and restroom facilities.
