The Snellville Police Department was recognized as a statewide leader in traffic safety during the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Governor’s Challenge Awards Banquet, held Thursday, October 22, 2026, in Macon, Georgia.
The department received three prestigious awards recognizing its commitment to traffic enforcement, public education, and community engagement:
- First Place in Agency Category – Recognizing the department’s outstanding overall traffic safety efforts among agencies of comparable size.
- Director’s Cup Award – Recognizing the Snellville Police Department for its exceptional overall traffic safety program and accomplishments.
- HEAT Team of the Year – Honoring the department’s Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (HEAT) Team for its outstanding contributions to traffic safety through enforcement, education, and community partnerships.
The Governor’s Challenge recognizes law enforcement agencies throughout Georgia for their efforts to reduce traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities through comprehensive highway safety initiatives.
The Snellville Police Department's success reflects a year-round approach to traffic safety that extends beyond traditional enforcement. Officers actively participate in child passenger safety programs, teen driver education, community outreach events, and public awareness campaigns addressing speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, and seat belt use.
Through child safety seat inspections and giveaway initiatives, officers help families better protect their youngest passengers. Educational programs targeting teenage drivers encourage responsible driving habits, while community events provide opportunities for officers to engage directly with residents about roadway safety.
The department's HEAT Team also plays a significant role in these efforts by conducting targeted traffic enforcement, addressing dangerous driving behaviors, and working with regional law enforcement partners to improve roadway safety.
"Receiving these three awards is a tremendous honor for our department and a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our officers," said Snellville Police Chief Greg Perry. "Traffic safety is about much more than issuing citations. It is about preventing crashes, saving lives, and educating our community. We are especially proud of our HEAT Team for being recognized as the best in the state. These awards demonstrate our department's commitment to making Snellville and Georgia's roadways safer for everyone."
The department credits its success to the combined efforts of its officers, supervisors, community partners, and residents who support traffic safety initiatives throughout the year.
"These awards belong to our entire department," Perry added. "Whether an officer is conducting traffic enforcement, teaching a young driver about roadway safety, or helping a parent properly install a child safety seat, every effort contributes to our mission of protecting lives."
The Snellville Police Department remains committed to building upon these accomplishments through proactive enforcement, continued education, and strong community partnerships.
